Tip #17: Salt and Pepper – One Shaker for Both

Salt and Pepper in one shaker?  Yes please!  It turns out that I am quite the klutz.  It’s been a while since it happened, but I dropped the pepper shaker and tile is very unforgiving.  Today I decided to add some pepper to my salt for an all in one shaker!

I dumped the salt into a container and added a significantly smaller amount of pepper, then stirred them together.
Then I poured the combo back into my shaker, using a mini cupcake liner as a funnel.  I just cut a little hole in the middle of it and it worked great!

So I’m curious, what do you think about this idea?  I think I’ll use it more for seasoning things as I cook rather than at the dinner table because obviously sometimes you need more salt than pepper and vice versa.  But what are your thoughts?!

It’s a neat idea, but wouldn’t work for us. We ground our pepper as we use it. Though, I’m weirdly allergic to freshly ground black pepper (or something, who knows…it makes my tongue go numb), so maybe this is an option for me.

Love this idea! But I with I’d known about it a few years ago when taking care of my grandmother. She wasn’t supposed to have salt but if I’d been able to blend the salt substitute (that she complained ‘wasn’t salt’) with pepper I could have more easily controlled her salt or in this can maybe non salt intake. Might have to used this idea on my mom…..

great idea, I’m with Shelli, I like more pepper than salt but I may make 2 different shakers, 1 with more and 1 with less, and I will be putting this on my table, a great way to de-clutter……

Like your idea! I like more pepper so maybe half and half would work or 3/4 pepper. We don’t use alot of salt and eat sea salt at that. Thanks for sharing.

I work at a main chain restaurant and we have one shaker that’s 75/25 and it’s what we use to season everything!
