Vinegar Cubes and Other Discoveries

Deodorize your garbage disposal by mixing 3/4 C water with 3/4 C Vinegar. Pour mixture into ice cube tray and freeze. Drop a few cubes down your disposal each week, followed by a cold water rinse.
As I did this today, I couldn’t help but notice how dirty that black piece of rubber was.  So I grabbed a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe and started wiping it down.  It was so disgusting!  I’ll spare you the visual, but will say that I about threw up in my mouth a half dozen times.  And it took a lot more than one wipe.
After cleaning the top side, I flipped the rubber inside out and reached down wiping all around in a circular motion.
Then I dropped a few more vinegar cubes down for extra deodorization!  This is definitely going on my weekly cleaning list.

FYI:  I transferred the ice cubes into a freezer bag because they were so smelly!

How did you get that rubber thing out to allow you to flip it over?!

Love this tip! Found you via Anna (in first comment) tweeting about it! :)

I keep a brush about the size of a vegetable brush just for scrubbing out the kitchsen sink drain. I dump in a healthy amount of baking soda, add a squirt of dishwashing liquid and just a little water. SCRUB! Run the disposer and rinse. Be sure to scrub the underside of the rubber gasket, as mentioned above. No more buildup. And no more funky kitchen sink smells.

You can also use i cup baking soda in 1 or 2 cups water and run hot water down.

Trying this right now…and put cut up pieces of leftover limes as an added bonus. Thanks for the tip!

I pop that nasty thing into the dishwasher when I have a load of dishes to run…also put the sink drainer plugs in there, the underside of the rubber gasket gets disgusting, too!
