Reduce Energy Usage

in All Tips, Reduce

I’ve recently been converted to the air drying option on my dishwasher.  Last week a plastic lid fell to the bottom and melted onto the heating element, creating smoke and a stench that filled the entire downstairs.  After opening windows and scraping it off, I decided to turn off the heated dry.  Although the element will still heat up for the water, it won’t turn on to dry the dishes which I’m hoping will reduce the chances of burnt plastic in the future.  Plus, it saves energy!  I’ve also started running it on the light cycle each time to further reduce energy usage.
So, today’s tip: Save energy by running your dishwasher on the shortest cycle for everything but very dirty dishes, and turn off the heated dry option (will reduce energy usage by 15-50%).
