It has been a busy last few days as we are preparing to leave on vacation at the end of this week! I don’t know how I got so lucky, but my in-laws are taking Aaron and I on a Baltic cruise!! Initially we had planned to take the babe with us, but after flying with her last year, we opted to let Jayna stay with her other grandparents.
While I am so so excited to be going, I am nervous about leaving her and traveling so far away. This will be the first time both Aaron and I are away from her for longer than 8 hours. What if something were to happen to us? We could die in a car accident or a plane crash, our ship might sink and take us down with it. So many things could go wrong! What would become of my precious baby? Who would take care of her?
These worries led me to get a will written. While my anxiety is still apparent, I have found some peace knowing that if something tragic does happen, she has a home to go to and people who will take her in as their own. But, oh Father in Heaven, please keep us safe!
It is a pretty simple process to get a will written up, especially if you use a service like
Estate Guidance. Aaron’s benefits include a free will through this company, so that is what we did (otherwise it would have been $20.00). After answering a series of questions, our wills were produced. We downloaded, printed, signed and had them notarized.
If you’re interested in doing this for yourself, here are a couple of resources that might be helpful:
- Writing a Will : General information
- Do Your Own Will Online: A free and simple way to compose your own legal will (much like the service we used, but free!)
Writing a will is not just for the wealthy, but is an important document that all adults should create. In addition to appointing a guardian for your children, a will ensures that your possessions will be distributed according to your wishes, your funeral wishes will be known, and the stress and heartache of loved ones will likely be lessened. So whatever your situation, prepare for the unexpected! Write your will today.

Thanks for the reminder. We do need to do this, any parents with children should! Hoping you have a wonderful safe trip!
