When the pile of mail, receipts, and stray papers grew to a ridiculous height on our kitchen counter and I was spending way too much time looking for that bill to pay or forgetting about it entirely, I decided to do some organizing. A family message/mail center was the solution to our cluttered counter.
First off, I needed a catchall for the mail. I purchased this mesh filer at Staples and added the label. It’s perfect because it’s wide enough to hold the bigger mail like grocery ads!
Next to the filer sits this fun paper holder that I picked up at a thrift store for just $.50! It holds urgent items that I don’t want to forget about.
And to complete our message/mail center, I hung up a dry-erase calender which I am loving. If something changes, I simply erase it – no scribbled out ugliness here. The Mr. uses a blue marker while I use pink to make distinguishing our separate activities easier. To the right of the calendar I keep a menu list for the week. There’s also enough room to jot down things we run out of and need to get the next time we are out shopping.
This project has gone a long ways in keeping our counter clutter free and has proved to help us stay more organized! Do you have a similar system in place in your home?

Do you remember where you got your calendar? We’re moving in a few weeks, and so it’s the perfect time for me to make our own message/mail center…which we desperately need!
Got it at Staples – my go to place for office supplies :) Good luck with your move!
