Seeing as we are almost half way through October, I thought I’d better get to the one Halloween craft on my Fall bucket list so it can be up for more than a week!
I was inspired to make this mummy head after seeing Girl Inspired’s tutorial. Last year I made some cute little mummies using styrofoam balls and a very similar process. Little did I know there were styrofoam shaped heads! I picked me one up before we moved and here it is all wrapped. I used the same method that I did on my little mummies (slightly different than Girl Inspired’s).
Gather your supplies:
– a styrofoam head (found at beauty supply stores and online)
-1 yd of muslin
-a tea packet
-an empty water bottle
-a paper bowl (not pictured)
First, fill a small pot half full of water and heat to a boil. Turn off heat and place tea packet in water.
Meanwhile, cut 1″ slits in your Muslin every 2 inches or so all along the selvage side (finished edge). Pull into strips-the fabric will tear easily!
Pour a bit of Mod Podge into a paper bowl and dip one end of a strip into it.
Press end onto styrofoam head, holding for several seconds, and wrap around. When you get near the end of the strip, dip it in the Mod Podge and press on head to secure.
Repeat with remaining strips until you have it nice and covered!
Fill the empty bottle with the now-cooled tea. Generously spray mummy head. Wait 20-25 minutes and spray again. Repeat until desired color is achieved.
Let mummy completely dry (this will take several hours) and display! Happy Halloween decorating!
