Custom Christmas Card Tutorial

Have you ordered Christmas cards yet this year? If not, you might consider designing your own! I threw this one together using My Memories Suite and am going to show you just how I did it!

First, open up My Memories. If you don’t have this software, you can download a free trial version or purchase it using code STMMMS54717 for a $10.00 discount (making it only $29.97) + a $10.00 credit to the My Memories store. I love this scrapbooking program because it is so easy to use and it doesn’t cost a fortune! I especially like to use it for cards and invites!

Okay, so upon opening, a screen will pop up with New Album Options. Click on Design Your Own. From here, you can choose the orientation and size of your card.  For this particular card I chose Landscape Album, 7X5.  Click OK.

Next, I like to zoom out (bottom right corner) to 75% and then remove the guide. Go to View –>Guides and click on Trim Area if it has a check mark by it. This will remove the gray area on your work space. Your screen should look very similar to this:

Now we are going to add a picture, background color, and some text!

To add a picture: Click on the camera icon in the left toolbar. Select the folder and picture you would like to use and drag the photo over onto your white work space. Drag it out to desired size. I drug mine out so that it went slightly off the top, bottom, and left to be sure no background shows through when I go to print. One of the great things about My Memories is that you don’t have to upload any pictures! If you have it somewhere on your computer, you can access it in the software with just a click of a button.

Add a Background: On the right side near the top, click on Background Papers then Color. Choose Picker and move your cursor to a color in your picture. I used the color of my sweater. Click Okay. Alternatively, you could choose a paper. I like to keep things simple by using a color. It’s easier than searching for the perfect paper and you can customize it to match your photo perfectly!

Add Text: Click on Word Art Designer in the right Control Panel, then the Add Wa box. Type your text and customize it how you would like. I used the font SNF Miss Molly and changed the color to solid, using the picker tool again to coordinate with my photo. You can move the text box by clicking on it and dragging. Click on the edges to change the size. I added a new word art box for each line of text and used the font Print Clearly for every other line.

Once you’ve added your text and got it where you want it, you are finished! Click on Share Album –> Export Pages. Save as a JPEG and you can now upload it to your favorite printing service.
